Ok...here we go. It is time to break Abby of the swing. It is 12:12 and I just put her down in her crib. I rocked her for about 10 minutes. I am NOT going to cave and go in there this time. I am going to turn on the monitor and let her learn to put herself to sleep. We have got to start getting some uninterrupted sleep around here. To add salt to the wound, she gave me a big smile when I put her in her bed. She had no idea that I was leaving her there.
I am going to be strong!
Update to come.
She did pretty good for her first nap in her crib. She played without crying for 20 minutes, then the crying cranked up for about 30 minutes. After about 30 minutes of wailing she went to sleep. It was blissful. I was able to dust downstairs, visit with Reynolds while he was home for lunch, and even do my workout video. She slept about an hour which I thought was ok for our first crib nap. She is currently back in the crib (still playing). Will update later.
Second nap she went down after only crying 23 minutes. I was so excited. I really thought I we were making progress.
Well tonight Reynolds put her down at 7:30...it is 8:42 and she is still crying. It breaks my heart! I did go in there once to hold her for a little while. I'm sure that did not help much. This is painful but I think it will be worth it when she starts sleeping!
Well she finally went to sleep around 9:00. This morning I put her in her crib for her morning nap and she cried for an hour. Never went to sleep! I finally got her up and put her in the swing and she slept for about 45 minutes. Second nap she fell asleep after only five minutes of crying in her crib. She only slept 45 minutes. I let her cry for 30 minutes and she never stopped so I just got her up. Oh my goodness this is exhausting!
She fell asleep in the carseat yesterday for her third nap. I just left her in it when we got home :)
Last night was AWFUL. Abby woke up 4 different times. I did not know what to do with her so I just let her suck on a bottle and that would put her back to sleep. I was so tired this morning that I just let her nap in her swing. She only slept 45 minutes. I put her down for her second nap in her crib at 10:45...its 11;20, still crying.

you will be so glad that you did this (in about a week)! just stick with it! i'll be praying for y'all...i know how hard it is!
ReplyDeletei think it took wyatt about a week of crying before he would just go to sleep quietly. but once we did it, we could put him down wide awake and he wouldn't make a peep while he drifted off. during the process we would let him cry for 20 minutes and then go in and rub his back for a minute to let him know it was okay and that we were there....then we'd leave the room. we'd keep going back in increasing intervals after that...so first 20 minutes, then 30 minutes, then 40 minutes, etc...until he went to sleep. hang in there! it is definitely torture and hurts your heart, but it will be so worth it!
