Remembering my Grandmother

Yesterday would have been my Grandmother's 84th birthday. Every child should have a Grandmother like mine. She was the definition of love and the definition of a lady. My Grandmother was always patient with me, never turned me away and was never too busy to listen. She taught me the importance of a life grounded in faith in the Lord. She encouraged me in my Christian walk and prayed with me through the hard times. I think of her every night as I sing to my daughter the old hymns she taught me to sing.

As a teenager and young adult I feared the day she would leave me. She did leave us on January 21, 2009. It still hurts and I miss her. My prayer was that she would meet the man I was to marry. My prayer was answered and Grandmother was able to be at my wedding in April of 2008.
It is now my responsibility to teach my children that though seemingly ordinary, their great-grandmother was extremely extraordinary.

  1. so sweet! i feel the same way about my grandmother...i miss her terribly, but was comforted when listening to a sermon about heaven. it included the testimony of someone who died, went to heaven and then returned to earth....he said that our loved ones are allowed to watch the meaningful events of our lives through a "portal". i just loved knowing that my sweet mimi has seen the births of my children and will see all of our important milestones as we go along. your grandmother is doing the same thing...
